The Fox Files- A look back on WrestleManias- 1-10!

Welcome back to the 15th edition of The Fox Files, and it’s a special one today, because for the next 3 weeks we are going full on WrestleMania style! In this episode, we will be talking about the standout match from the first 10 WrestleMania’s! Let’s not waste anymore time, shall we!?

WrestleMania 1- Hulk Hogan & Mr.T vs “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff

The first ever WrestleMania took place from one of the most famous and iconic places in the world, Madison Square Garden. This match was the main event, a unlikely duo, going up against possibly the biggest loudmouth ever in Roddy Piper, and the man who called himself “Mr Wonderful” in Paul Orndorff. Not only was this the perfect main event for the first ever WrestleMania, but it has set the standards for the WrestleManias for the past 3 decades. When the match finished, the mohawked member of the A-Team in Mr.T, and the flag wearing-yellow wearing tee shirt ripper in Hulk Hogan had their hands raised.

WrestleMania 2- NFL Battle Royal

This WrestleMania took place, unbelievably in 3 different locations, from Chicago IL, New York, and Los Angeles, CA! In this match, WWE greats such as Bret Hart, Hillbilly Jim and The Iron Sheik, took on the devestating monsters from NFL such as Bill Fralic, and my personal favourite, William “The Refrigerator” Perry! This also marked the first EVER Battle Royal to go down at the Showcase Of The Immortals

WrestleMania 3- Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant

Now, I was contemplating to go for Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage for this WrestleMania, but nothing beats the Hulkster lifting up Andre and bodyslamming him, which led to Hulk’s famous leg drop for the victory! Leading up to this match, Andre seemed absolutely unstoppable, but when he found his match with Hulk Hogan, the irresistible force met the immovable object! This WrestleMania also marked a record that stood in the record books for 29 years, with a crowd of 93,173.

WrestleMania 4- the 14 Man tournament?

WHAT? You must be thinking, yes I’m basically dedicating the entire show here, because it was just so hard to pick one match from the show of shows! At WrestleMania 4, a fourteen man tournament took place for the WWE Championship took place, with “Macho Man” Randy Savage finally capturing the WWE Championship, after defeating “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase in the finals. This was one crazy WrestleMania! Here’s a stat for you- 4 matches Randy Savage took part in this one WrestleMania, which is a record that still stands today!

WrestleMania 5- The Rockers vs The Twin Towers

This was like David vs Goliath, because the twin towers seemed like the most powerful thing we would ever come to see in the WWE, but 2 men under the name of Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty wanted to try and stop the waves of momentum, and even though they didn’t get the job done, the cat was out of the bag, and Shawn Michaels was here to stay. I mean, he is Mr.WrestleMania!

WrestleMania 6 – Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warror

we are past the halfway mark, and to personally one of my favourite WrestleManias. In this one, we are going to talk about one of the biggest high-stakes match to ever take place in the WWE, Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior for both the Intercontinental, and WWE Championship.

Warrior and Hogan took each other to the limit in this match, both pulling, and kicking out of each others finishers. It was The Ultimate Warrior that won it all though, and this was the only WWE Championship that the Ultimate Warrior claimed in the WWE.

WrestleMania 7- The Undertaker vs Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka

Where the legendary Undertaker’s streak started… Where it all began. In 1991, The Undertaker was a fresh face in the WWE, having only debuted the previous November at Survivor Series. But wow did The Undertaker make a lasting impression at WrestleMania, and in the WWE. He changed the landscape forever, but Taker walked away victorious after a bone-shattering Tombstone Pile-driver.

WrestleMania 8- “Rowdy” Roddy Piper vs Bret Hart- now if you truly want a match where both superstars refuse to give up. Both take each other to the limits they never even thought they had, then this is without a doubt the match! The stakes were even higher, as this was for the Intercontinental Championship! Bret Hart came away victorious though, after reversing the Sleeper Hold and rolling up Roddy Piper for the count.

WrestleMania 9- Shawn Michaels vs Tatanka

One of the most underrated matches in WrestleMania history, this WrestleMania marked the first one to be held outdoors, and this was the opening bout. Shawn Michaels won this match, which truly showed off what he has in his arsenal.

WrestleMania 10- Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels

This, for me is my 2nd favourite match of all time, you’ll see what my favourite match of all time is later on in this series of WrestleMania matches, but this was a ladder match for the unification of the Intercontinental Championships. This legitimately took the ladder match to new heights (no pun intended) and for nearly 20 minutes, these superstars refused to let one another win. In the end though, it was Razor Ramon who came away victorious. But the winner, truly was the WWE Universe for this. They were out of their seats for the full match? The losers? Just about every single Ladder match that followed…

I hope you enjoyed this! Tune in next week, as we take a look back at WrestleManias 11-20! What is your favourite WrestleMania? Comment down below and let us know!
